seeking advice on computer technology. Activities include consultancy and
assessment services to assist in choice and use of computer equipment at work
and at home. The centre can also advise people who have repetitive strain injury
who find keyboard and mouse work difficult. Local groups are set up in Bristol,
Cambridge, Liverpool, London, Reading, York, Weybridge and Edinburgh. Opening

Aims to promote the training and employment opportunities that exist for people
with disabilities within travel and tourism around Europe. Offers sheltered work
and training for disabled people in the following areas of tourism: Guest houses
and hotels; Campsites and caravan parks; Travel agents; Specialist travel
information services; Tour operators and holiday companies Visitor centres and
places of interest.
Age Concern England is a national charity that works to promote the well being
of older people and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable
experience. The head office provides support and advice to Age Concern
organisations around the country. These organisations provide the direct
services for older people locally and are independent charities in their own
right. Age Concern England has a grant fund for new or expanding projects of
direct benefit to older people which are run by charities or organisations with
charitable intentions. Publishes fact sheets and an 'Information Bulletin' with
information on community care, consumer affairs, disability issues, health and
health service information, heating, housing, income, and parliament/government
and legal affairs. All information is available via Age Concern's web site or
the telephone help line.
Arthritis
Care
Arthritis Care aims to empower people to take take control of their arthritis
and their lives. As a national charity it works proactively with and for people
with arthritis, providing development courses, self-help groups and funding
improvements in self management. In addition we work through 650 local branches
and groups with more than 7000 volunteers providing information, counselling,
publications, holidays, support and assistance for more than 100,000 people each
year. Information counsellors available Mon - Fri 10am - 4pm. Free phone from
12noon - 4pm. Publishes a quarterly magazine 'Arthritis News' on issues related
to arthritis. Arthritis News, free to members also carries advertisements for
second hand equipment. Membership is open to everyone with and everyone
concerned with or for arthritis. Details and application form is available on

Represents 280 healthcare companies which supply products and services for
people with specific physical needs. It represents companies in the areas which
include: healthcare; furniture; mobility equipment; wheelchair distribution;
occupational health; orthopaedics; prescription appliances; prosthetics;
rehabilitation; stoma and continence care; surgical instruments. A code of
conduct governs all members.

Institute of Learning Disabilities
Provide services for carers and families of disabled people; offering training
and support. They also have a resources centre, which is open to the general
public on an appointment basis. Also produce a wide range of publications on the
issues of learning disabilities.

Lung Foundation
Supplies information leaflets, Breathe Easy Club Newsletter; and organises local
support groups for people who have breathing problems and related illnesses.

Polio Fellowship
Represent the needs of people who have or may yet have polio, to enable them to
take their full part in the life of the community and to offer support to all
such people resident in the UK and Eire, whether members or not. Provide
information on a variety of issues including disabled people's rights, aids to
independence, benefits and other disability issues. Branches throughout the
country, and trained social workers at the main office. Produce a bi-monthly
magazine on polio-related issues.

Red Cross - National Headquarters
Provide a number of services via local branches in the UK to meet the needs of
people in their communities. These services include: loan of medical equipment
such as wheelchairs and commodes; transportation of those unable to travel
alone; assistance and support to those recently discharged from hospital;
provision of temporary carers when regular carers fall ill or require a break.
Also run Skin Camouflage Service to teach people the techniques to apply creams
to cover up skin conditions or skin disfigurements and therapy treatment service
(massage) for those suffering from stress. Those seeking information on these,
and other services, should approach their local British Red Cross branch, or
alternatively the British Red Cross National Headquarters.

Be Done Ltd
Tour operator and organiser of leisure 'days out' for disabled and less agile
people. Aims to enable those who have disabilities, to have access to the same
holiday and leisure facilities as those who are able-bodied, if at all
practical. Co-ordinates accommodation, transport and visits to most areas of the
world.

Research Campaign
To attack and defeat the disease of cancer in all its forms, and promote its
cure by research into its causes, distribution, symptoms, pathology and
treatment.
Cystic

and help promote diagnosis in young children. Cystic Fibrosis Trust (Wales) aims
to support children and adults with Cystic Fibrosis and their families. To

members include 15% off most RAC membership; 10% off parking at some BCP and APH

Provides information and advice on driving, driving assessment, vehicle
adaptations, car insurance and mobility problems for members and non-members.
Have an adapted hotel, 'Ashwellthorpe Hall' in Norfolk, accessible to wheelchair
users (DDA members receive a 10% discount). Ferry concessions available for
driver members with lower limb disability. Magazine, 'Magic Carpet' published
quarterly and selection of advice leaflets available. Local groups throughout UK
meet to address local issues, for example, access, pedestrianisation and to

Help
the Aged
This organisation campaigns and lobbies on behalf of older people, aiming to
improve the quality of life of older people in the UK, and internationally. It
operates Seniorline, a free national telephone advice and information service
for senior citizens, their relatives, carers and friends, which is open Monday
to Friday, 10am-4pm. They also run a winter warmth line (0800) 289404 and
produce a range of free advice leaflets on health issues, housing, home safety
and money matters. It can supply Seniorline telephone community alarms systems
to older people on low incomes. Help the Aged runs residential homes, sheltered
housing and operates a unique Gifted Housing scheme.
Holiday

Organisation, which provides information and support to disabled people who wish
to take a holiday. Service provides: information on sources of holiday funding
for disabled people on a low income; information on accessible accommodation
nationally and internationally; a range of publications related to holidays;
information on accessible visitor attractions and transport; a reservation
service for accommodation, including activity holidays and respite care
holidays.

Grooms Association for Disabled People
John Grooms is a national Christian charity working with disabled people to
maintain their independence and improve their quality of life through the
provision of Care, Employment and Housing. Groom's Holidays is one of several
operating divisions of John Grooms. It offers a wide range of accessible
accommodation around England and Wales, including a fully accessible river boat
on the Norfolk Broads.
Limbless
Association
To promote the general welfare and rehabilitation of people of all ages without
limbs through amputation or otherwise. Provides advice and information to people
born without limbs or who have had an amputation. Promotes Rehabilitation
through a home / hospital visiting service. Membership and a quarterly

This organisation aims to take the worry out of getting about for people with
mobility impairments. They sell and hire wheelchairs, scooters and disabled
products sourced from the worlds leading manufacturers; on the Costa del Sol. At

Motability
Charity helping disabled people and their families to become more mobile. People
in receipt of Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
(DLA) or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS) can use their allowance to
hire or buy a car, or buy a powered wheelchair.
MS
Trust
The trust focuses upon people already diagnosed as having MS. It works to
support people with MS by funding research in disease management; providing
positive and realistic information and establishing a national network of nurses
ordained in this field.
Multiple
Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Aims to promote research into finding the cause and a cure for MS. Provides a
range of information leaflets about MS. Provides information and advice about
financial assistance. Produces a monthly magazine 'Team Spirit' where

SCOPE
- Cerebral Palsy Helpline
Scope's services include creating housing, leisure, education and employment
opportunities for people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. Our
Fieldworkers support disabled people, families and carers and over 250 local
groups. We also engage in research and campaigning. Our Cerebral Palsy Helpline
offers free information, confidential initial counselling and advice. Helpline
open Mondays - Fridays 9am-9pm; Saturdays and Sundays 2pm-6pm.
Spinal
Injuries Association
Aims to enable people with spinal injuries to control their lives and achieve
their goals. To represent the interests of all spinal cord injured people,
regardless of how the impairment occurred. To support all those affected by
spinal cord injury, including the friends and family of the disabled person.
Provides an up to date, accurate and comprehensive information service covering
a wide range of issues to do with spinal cord injury. Telephone counselling
service - (020) 8883 4296 offers both one-off and ongoing counselling to spinal
cord injured people, their partners, families and friends. A link scheme enables
some member volunteers to be contacted on a chosen topic, through a confidential
registration form. Provides a list of solicitors, specialising in personal
injury claims, who will provide an initial interview free of charge. A personal
assistance service provides 24 hour, live-in help for spinal cord injured
members in England & Wales for up to 20 days per year. Membership from œ12.50
to œ150. Produce a range of publications on spinal injury. Produce a bi-monthly
newsletter 'Forward' where advertisements can be placed for second hand
equipment.

Telephone based transport information service for older people and people with a
disability. The service is free of charge.
